Just thought I would quickly update you all to let you know that we are not in the flood effected area .....yet. We are experiencing quite heavy downpours and a little wind, but nothing to the degree that the photos I have posted in Nadi show.
Thank you so much for your prayers and encouragement through emails, phone calls and txt messages. Due to the electricity outages etc, Vodafone are organsing places for people to recharge their phones, as most of the phones are out in the Nadi, Lautoka and Ba areas.
Digicel, one mobile phone compnay has even sent a $20.00 credit to every Digicel customer to help them contact family or if they need to use their phone in an emergency. Though its no use ringing a police post because they have all been washed out as well! Its quite unnerving when there is no emergency plan, or infrastructure to deal with this type of disaster. It is going to take a long , long time for this country to heal from this. Over 8000 people have lost their homes, with 11 young people dying in the flooded water, most being swept away by the rapid flow of water.
